Hi all, I have manufactured, specified and sold field limitation joints, structural movement joints, fire barriers etc for over 20 years now. i would be happy to help if anyone has a problem regarding expansion joints, i will try and get round to posting certain criteria where joints are required and a few calculation examples explaining how the expected movement figure is achieved. Regards

i've yet to to a floor big enough to need a expansion, but am about to start one next week. Its a kitchen floor (7m2) with an offshot utility (4m2)then runs through to a conservatory (22m2) from the kitchen. All plywood floor, so i need to put an expansion joint in the conservatory. Am i right in thinking that i need this expansion joint on the centre lines (horizontal and vertical) as well as all the edges.
What if the tiles are to be set in brick bond, it would be a problem doing a vertical line down the centre as the tiles are all staggered.
:huh2:

simple answer is you will need to break the brick bond to accomodate the expansion joint.:thumbsup:You can keep the bond flowing but you will need to cut the tiles either side of the EJ.
