Movement Joints

Hello All,
I have recently completed the Diamond Training Course in west Sussex and have completed several job specifications. The main grey area i have is movement and expansion gaps, I currently leave 2/3mm gap from ceiling and in the vertical corners of the room and fill with a good quality sealent. I also run translucent sealent where tile meets tile at floor level.
Is this the correct practice?
Is this only really needed in new builds?
I have spoken to some "Old school" tilers in my area who grout everything and i would like to find out the correct medium.

Any thoughts? Thank you.

I don't use sealant where the tiles meet the ceiling, I just grout and never have any problems at all. I seal internal corners and where the tile meets the floor/bench.

Schluter & Weber do a movement joint for internal corners and joints.

Using Silicon is another method that can be used and is a lot cheaper but the finish isn't as good.

Always leave a few mil gap between the wall / floor tiles, dont grout and put a movement joint in with matching colour to the grout of the floor.

No need to put a movement joint in the wall / ceiling area unless the floor above is being used where potential vibration could pass through onto the tiles. Not necessary but something to think about.
