Afternoon, sorry to go off track a bit from the topic, but any suggestions as to which multi tool I should purchase based on quality but also ease to source and cost of replacement blades etc? I would love to spend a fortune on the best, but this isn't realistic at the moment so any suggestions appreciated. Thanks

From what I can gather, the Fein has always been regarded as the flagship but I have only ever used "my first multi-tool" a cheap and cheerful 250w Worx from Argos. Its done everything I've needed it to from trimming skirtings, door frames, sanding, grout removal. I even took a 5mm strip off the bottom of a door with it when we had a carpet fitted but admit, it took a while. It was either that or a hand saw but decided you can't have a tool and not play with it....... (sounds wrong). I tested it when I first got it and was even able to put a bullnose on a piece of honed slate, using the standard sanding pads but I see now you can get the proper diamond pads for tile work.

It has the quick release for easily changing the open backed blades, however a little more fiddling is needed to use the Fein/Bosch type with the closed back. But thats the only drawback I've found so far. Although would probably up to a 350w if its going to get full-on daily use.

Thanks Paul and sorry to interrupt you playing with your tool!!

Do the blades last and are they easy to get hold of?

There are different blades for cutting different material, so providing you are using the right blade, no reason why they shouldn't last a while (depending on the amount of use). I've only bought 1 pack of blades, again cheap and cheerful PTX set from B&poo but most sheds have similar versions. I'm sure there will be much better quality ones knocking about if you shop around but start off by looking at the ones the guys are advising above. They know their stuff and probably use their tools more than me............*oh behave* 🙂

Might might be star lock? It’s got a lever on the back and you slide a pin in the front when changing the blade
