That's interesting the pic of the sink......you've centred the tiles on wall......would it have looked ok to have used the sink as the centre as you have mentioned....would you have had a small cut at the right-hand side? I've been taught to create chunky cuts regardless of the sinks etc....except windows

He has probably re-tiled it by now. That post was 5 years ago

Not sure I'd agree!
If it leaves small cuts to the corners this aesthetically does not look good.
Every job is different and each has it's own setting out.
In a cloakroom such as this the basin is not always in the middle of the wall.

Six and two 3's in my opinion. He could have moved over slightly and either used a grout line at the centre of the sink or a whole tile. But this would have still given cuts down one wall. So, it's a case of judging the aesthetics at the time. Personally I do like an even cut both sides!

To be honest having studied the picture a few times...I think he may have done the best thing.....rather than leaving cuts to one or other corner and possibly a tricky cut

On the sink wall I would have went centre tile to centre line, this way it would have left about 3 quarters of a tile for the cut & a lot more pleasing to the eye.
