My New Van woes.....!

Flintstone

well, yesterday while out I noticed the new transit sounded a bit lumpy, it’s been a bit lumpy for a few days but more so yesterday, so after pulling up to go in a shop I noticed it was pretty loud. I called my local garage who i trust who does all my work, managed to fit me in this morning to have a look at it, they diagnosed it.... bottom end knocking! So after some conversations with the garage I bought it off I’ve had it and myself recovered 100 miles to take it back and get a refund and get my old trusty van back!! What a day.
I’m now sinking a few Timmy Taylor’s landlord’s

Andy

2014 Lee, out of warranty by less than 3 months. Full Ford history, 83k miles. One of those things I guess, I feel like a load has lifted from my shoulders. Gonna chill for a few weeks with the old van and see how I feel about things

Your making a wise decision Andy.
I hope it works out for you, our our work vehicles are so crucial to our lively hoods. Good luck with it and keep us updated 🙂

Gutted for you mate.
Might be worth getting one of these

I’m out of pocket by £450. Half of which was recovery costs.
Not sure what the cause was really but it’s not a good sign. I liked the van and it’s toys and it’s comfort, but the build quality isn’t great compared to German. I really don’t know what I’ll do next.

Garage you bought it from should be paying full recovery costs

I agree but I was just glad to be able to take it back without too much fuss, I could have argued that but my thoughts were, I can still get back to work on Monday, and I could have easily lost a few days of work time with this happening, so that’s worth taking that cost on the chin for imo.

Got it all on the paper work and when I did hpi check it it it all came back on there with the service mileage too, direct from ford lease Andy. Not good is it

Unfortunately modern turbo diesels, especially if the turbo is mounted high, are very sensitive to oil level. This can cause the turbo to blow and eat all the engine oil. Some garages just change the turbo, fill the engine with oil and, if it runs, job done. Clearly if an engine is run without oil it can do far more damage or at the very least cause excessive wear which can lead to premature failure of other components.

Someone must of ragged it and then..
27 thousand miles a year is high mileage.
Nearly 3 times the average....
Car dealer once told me the best vehicle to buy is 1 private owner.... FSH..... and low mileage....... Bit like hens teeth when buying a van though..

Unfortunately Andy, most 3 year old company or lease vans have done that sort it Milage. The recovery truck driver had strong opinions on 3 year old vans, saying he picks a lot up and after 100k there warn out and that’s about all there made to do.

What van do you drive Andy?
Part of me thinks keep the van I’ve got or make a small upgrade and put the money towards buying a buy to let!

I got an 05 traffic..... It's done nearly 170k miles....... I bought it about 4 years ago and had 3 years trouble free motoring, however I had to spend a small fortune on it this year.... New turbo, sensors, brake pads, discs... Spent £1,400 !!
I've never spent more than 3 grand on a van.... I tend to look at them as work horses. ...... Buy them run them into the ground till they become unvieable to keep on the road..... Bin it a buy another one..

Just a Ford focus titanium... 05 model..
Bought it low mileage... One owner and a full service history..... So far 3 years trouble free motoring..!
I got a 12 plate traffic on 170k running smooth at the moment I’ve had it a year plus,
I also got a 62plate focus titanium which was nearly new one owner ( missus wants me to get rid of it).

You take a chance with 2nd hand vans you can never really be sure if its been
looked after. I'm the same as Andy don't spend loads on my vans but try and keep
em up to scratch. Oil and filter really important I change em every 8,000 miles.
Good luck Andy
