need some expert advice

can some body clarify something for me . i have what ive been told is a floating floor in my kitchen which i wish to have tiled . do i need to hve ply laid before laying hardibacker and is hardibacker necessary if ply is laid .

i wouldn't tile a floating floor, there to unstable, no matter what you pile on top of it, its still a floating floor.....

I agree, way too unstable. You'd be better off looking at Amtico or Karndean

You could of course have it removed, the floor screeded and a tile of your choice then installed.

I've just lost an 80 m2 floor because it was a floating floor, suggested Amtico to the customer so at least my mate might get some work out of it!

ive now been informed its not a floating floor just floorboards do i need hardibacker if ply is laid

If the floorboards are in good condition, screwed to the joists at 300 c/s and with no deflection, you could overboard with 18mm WBP ply, which complies with BS5385. Alternatively you could overboard with Hardie or similar backer board. The latter would be my method.
