Hi mate, welcome to the forum.
Im a new be to but i have just been given a nice dewalt set, which has a 12v cordles drill and a mains hamer drill which has hamer stop, so i can use it with chisels to take up floors and the like, really good kit, only £84 from screw fix.

would not say no to makita though, nice kit.

Hi Neil and welcome to the forums.
I use a cheep drill drive from homebase, it was £35 and comes with 2 18v batteries. I use it for screwing down ply and mixing adhesive by putting a whisk into the chuck. It means i can mix anywhere outside with out running cables. Mixing is hard on them so i bought a 3 year no quibble new for old exchange for a fiver. It generally only lasts 3-5 months before a fault develops then i change it.
If you want a decent drill get a makita as the other chaps recommend, a bit more expensive but ti will last (as long as you dont mix adhesive with it).

Hi ,
i'm confused now.
Could somebody explain the difference between 3.0 ah nimh batteries and 3. ah li-ion batteries?
I'm checking out makita combi drills but am unsure what i need to be looking for in a combi drill.I need it to be easy to use , hard waring, value for moneyand to make my job a bit easier.I have a budget of arround £200.What models should i look at getting(It's a lot of money for me to spend so i need to use it very wisely)
Please, your help will be greatly appreciated.

hi neil

if you want the best then get makita as the rest of the lads have said.

if you want a good all round drill then get the makita bhp451rfe £270 from toolshopdirect.co.uk 3 speed with hammer. 13mm steel - 65mm wood - 16mm masonary and they have 3.0 ah lithium ion batteries (latest tech)

makita are better than dewalt in build quality, servicing, and longevity!! go into any servicing store and ask which drill comes back more often and the answer wont be makita. lithium ion batteries dont suffer memory effect so you can recharge them before they have run down without any prblems. they last longer too and are lighter. i have all makita kit now, circ saw, jig, screw gun etc etc. you can buy the bare units and add them to your kit as you go along.

hope this helps

the best way to get your head around the battery type is to look at mobile phones...

the 1st ones out where nickel cad, they where rubbish, didnt last long, maybe a day or so..

then at the end of the 90's nickel metal hydride came out, they lastest about 2 -3 days then needed charging, again with these you had to run them down 1st before you charged them

then the latest version came out , lithium ion, lighter, last twice as long as nmh, and you can keep topping up the charge and the cells remain consistant..

5 years at the carphone warhouse came in useful for somethng then??
