New guy enters the world of tiling!

Hello there, This is my first posting, I did the NETT course a few weeks ago and I now have van full of tools and I'm raring to go, although I'm not too sure of what route to go down. Should I start off alone and gradualy build up my business or as I have next to no previous experience, should I work for a company for a while and get some more knowledge under my belt, I think the latter seems more sensible, what do you guys think?

really depends how confident u are.
i would start with freinds & family, tell anybody you know in the building
trade that u tile.
if u know another tiler ask can u go on a few jobs to pick up experience.
there is so much u could be doing..

Tell eveyone and anyone you meet what you do...start off with family and friends..they expect to get it cheaper and it's good practice you, convince them they need there bathrooms/kitchens tiling..lol..good luck..

Hi mate.

I would do family and friends jobs first, then advertise a bit to get some self employed jobs in, build up a portfolio of work you have done, then if you wanted to get a job as a tiler then you have work you can show to them.

I don't know of many places that would hire a tiler without seeing what you can do first.

Or if you can get pleanty of jobs, then stick working for yourself.

It's amazing how quick you guys respond, cheer I appreciate it.
I feel quite confident enough to do kitchen and bathroom walls although Maybe I might be up to speed yet, obviously that will come with practise. Im the kind of guy who likes to travel so an option is to travel the UK doing short term contracts for a few weeks or months here and there. Does anyone know of any tiling/construction industry agencies which could help me out there? Secondly,

Secondly, what is 'patching' work?
And finally, what is second phase work?
Proper bone questions these i bet, but we all gotta start somewhere, lol!

Thanks for all the welcomes guys, and Penno, I tried to join the army three times, but for various reasons, mainly my back, I never made it. So at the ripe old age of 27, I've decided to knock it on the head and move on, hence the career change into tiling.
