PICKED UP SIR RAMICS GREAT THREAD ON KNEE PADS .
FOR US TILERS WITH 15-30 YEARS ON OUR KNEES ON A REGULAR BASIS THIS IS A DEFINING FACTOR IN OUR LONGEVITY IN THE TRADE .
WE ALL DO LESS OR MORE ON OUR KNEES AND THERE MAY BE INHERRENT PROBLEMS, BUT MY QUESTION IS WHAT SURGERY IS THE BEST TO TAKE WHEN THE PROBLEM BECOMES UNAVOIDABLE AND THIS WILL HIT MOST LONG TERM TILERS ALBEIT WITHIN THEIR WORKING LIFE OR IN RETIREMENT.
FOR MY CASE , MY KNEES HAVE GOT PROGRESSIVELY WORSE OVER THE YEARS DESPITE USING KNEE PADS OF VARYING QUALITY OVER LAST 25 YEARS.
MY KNEE BLEW UP BIG SIZE LAST YEAR FOR FIRST TIME AND BOOKED IN FOR A SCAN.
HAD KEYHOLE SURGERY AND SHAVING BITS OFF AND CLEAR OUT ,BUT KNEE FEELS WORSE THAN BEFORE.
SUGGESTION IS, WILL NEED KNEE REPLACEMENT IN YEAR OR SO, OR ALTERNATIVE IS TO BREAK LEG AND REALIGN.
FIRST OPTION OFF WORK FOR 4 MONTHS BUT GOOD CHANCE OF OP GOING TO PLAN.
SECOND OPTION OFF FOR 6 MONTHS, SUCESS RATE LOWER BUT IF WORKS CAN REVERT TO PREVIOUS ACTIVITIES WITH GOOD AS NEW KNEE/LEG.
HAS ANYONE GONE DONE EITHER OF THESE ROUTES AND WHAT WAS THE OUTCOME.
THE FEELING OF PHYSIO IS THAT WHILST KNEE REPLACEMENT IS QUITE EASY NOWASDAYS, REPLACEMENT MAY ONLY LAST 10-15 YEARS. THE WORRY IS NOT ABOUT REPLACEMENT SO MUCH FOR ORDINARY PEOPLE(that does not include us )BUT THE FACT THAT TILERS LIKE US WILL THEN BE APPLYING PURCHASE PRESSURE ON A POINT ( ie the knee) and this is not good at all.
As an aside , for the the member( not one of the regulars I see posts from) who questioned whether my photos for current JOTM entry might just have been taken whilst I was enjoying the luxury of taking the weight off my feet in someones bathroom I did not tile, I can only say I will gladly show him a photo of a bad tilers knee, before and after operation and could probably provide a video if this is not suffice.
