Hello Everyone

I'm a new memeber, i was just hoping i could get some advice i have recently finished a tiling course and am trying my best to go self employed, i have started out handing out buisness cards to close shops etc. During my course i was never shown how to price up a job properly? and 1 more thing, i'm just about to get my self some tools any suggestions on what is good for some 1 who is just starting out?

Which course did you do and what help do you require for pricing? We cant actually talk money in a public forum but we can help in other ways.

hello , i done a course in Cardiff it was6 weeks long and i also done a 1 week plumbing to learn how to take out radiators , toilets etc. i never got told 1 thing about pricing so at this moment in time i wouldnt really no where to start?

Ok so If we pretended that you had a floor to quote for ?
How basic do you want?
Can you work measurements out?
Do you have a meterage rate and daywork rate in mind? Bear in mind you need to know your competition.
Are you aware of wastage allowance?
Do you have trade accounts set up at tile stores for discounted materials ?
Are you going to pass discounts on to clients ?

quite basic tbh, yes i can work measurements out, i havent decided on rates per square m at the moment, atm what is a average price per square m? i'm just about to set up trade account to recieve trades discount.

Rates vary from area to area which is why i say get to know your competition. Plus we are not allowed to talk £££ here
You will be quoting against time served tilers and as such you will find they will be getting better discounts than you at 1st. the more you buy from your supplier the better chance of getting better discounts from them.
You will also find that you may be pricing too high at 1st due to you not being able to tile areas as quick as time served tilers.
It will be hard at 1st but if you are willing to work hard and long hours it will all come good in the end.
When quoting ."NEVER" give the price there and then but always get it written out and to the client ASAP.
You need time to work measurements out. Find out prices of materials/Tiles...maybe you have to park on a pay and display or travel long distances...all these things will be coming out of your pocket.
