Hi there and welcome to the forums,i agree with the weight ratios given 20kg per m2 for plaster skim and 32kg per m2 for plasterboard and i always suggest that unless you can 100% guarantee the wall condition then strip it back and dot and dab plasterboard(did it myself for a customer 2 days ago, better safe than sorry)good luck mate

Ok.

I have decided instead of making all the mess of stripping back the walls then dot & dab plasterboard it may be easier and less mess to baton the walls in 18 x 44mm timber screwed and plugged to the wall and then screw the plasterboard to that.

The room is big enough to be able to do this without making it too small.

I planned on using 2400 x 1200 sheets of 9.5mm, and the batoning vertical at 600mm centers with 4 even spaced horizontals (2300 high ceiling).

Any suggestions on this method are apreciated, ie using 12.5 instead of 9.5 boards.

12.5 would be better.............and the only other thing is that if you screw battons to the existing walls then if there is any lumps and bumps then the battons will just follow these , unless you use packers behind the battons to flatten the walls out.......just a thought.......personally i would strip them back if that bad....

Walls aren't that bad at all or i would have never given a second thought to puling everything of and starting again,

As i mentioned in a previous post the plaster feels solid and is pretty flat i presume it would take a fair bit of work to get it off the walls.
