new, tiling but am i doing it wrong?

scenario is this, i am tiling a bathroom floor to ceiling, and as im told, and have been doing it, you dont tile from floor as the floor could be out, so laying 600x300, in an offset fashion, starting approx 2 tiles from floor up, now when it comes to fitting the tiles below the battern I have 595 from bottom of tile to floor, how do you guys cut the bottom tile, eg 595 less 2x 2mm spacers is 591, so bottom tile is cut 291mm correct ?only thats what im doing but seems to be a extra 2 mm cut from tile, or do i need glasses ?. im new here so be gentle.

i would stick the full tile in first and forget about the cut, then when the adhesive has gone off just mark the cuts and stick them in..

Hey up mate, where does the 291mm come into the equation? Is that a typo or is that the size of your cut to the floor?

Edit, I'm being dumb! :lol: Try to leave just one tile below a batten then its easier to mark/ measure.

Mark the bottom tile from the floor to the tile above with the tile it's self..I would only leave a single tile for the bottom row after setting out.

Are you sure your tiles are 600x300 and not 598x298??? measure the back of the tile (not front) to make sure

The extra 2mm will allow for an expansion gap..

First of all...Lay a level on the floor..

If it is level then you will measure the wall,floor to ceiling..Then lay the tiles on the floor..Space them acordingly..And then see where you want to cut the tiles..Big tiles on bottom row and cuts on top row or cuts on bottom row and full on top row...

Or split the cuts equally..

If you want to start the tiles and leave the bottom cut out,simply nail a thin piece of wood to the wall after it's level and set them on it until they dry..

Pull the wood off and cut the bottom tiles tight to the floor..Floors always drop later..walls stay where they are..
