hello again, after that last lot of great help i am back for another question if i may.

i have recently replaced the bathroom floor at my daughters. the floor was left for a week to adjust to room temperature and then isntalled with joist vises. they have been cramped very tightly so it will not shrink and leave gaps.

now i have tiled many floor but as this is the 1st time i have done it on new floorboards, i thought i would ask if there was anything i need to be aware of?

do i just ply sheet the floor as normal and screw it down or is there something else i need to do?

any special thickness of ply? or anything to be aware of?

Hi..

If the floor is stable enough deflection wise...then i would personaly use hardi backer 250. for a better substrate to tile to.

Hardie backer 250 for me too, it's only 6mm thick, so no real pressure on floor height issues, 1500 x 900 dimensions so a nice manageable size

what exactly do you mean by "deflection wise?" if you mean that it won't expand/contract, i can guarrantee it. i have put 18St of strength behind it rrr:

i can pretty much guess what the stuff looks like but can't say i have used/seen it.just screw that down the same way?

anybody know where sells them individually at sensible prices? i have found quite a few but minimum order amounts. i need 2 and don't really want 8/10 of them.

picked up 8 sheets of Hardibacker from my local tile trade counter. the only weird thing was when i just picked all 8 sheets up in one go, they came running behind me with a trolley but i didn't think it was that heavy rrr:

when you lads say to screw it down and apply SPF. which SPF do you mean? are you talking about a tubed adhesive or a mixed adhesive?

is it alright to use drywall screws (the collated ones i use in my gun)

A single part flexible adhesive (powdered) and some good screws that will give a nice tight grip, so if the drywall screws will do the job, use them AVOID using nails as they only work their way loose.

ok, thanks for that. just wasn't sure about the adhesive as i havn't ever used these boards before.

nails... after 20+ years in other trades you get to hate nails. i gun screw a lot of things :smilewinkgrin: but obviously i won't use the gun on these boards. i'll do it by hand.

Don't use drywall screws Pac, they are for plasterboard and although sharp they are brittle and can easily snap. I always use interior wood screws.

erm, normal to me but maybe a little larger than average. i do go to the gym. i'm about 5`11`` and erm..18St

not all fat though, i can bench press just under 22 stone properly without stupid substances because i hate cheaters.

so no, it didn't seem anything untoward to just pick them up but then again, i usually do stupid things like grabbing the missus for a bit of fun and her saying "owe that hurt" :incazzato:

as for the screws, now i am unsure cos one says yes and another says no.

to me, normal screws rust and would react with the adhesive but drywall screws don't. however, the one that said the dry wall screws are brittle is also correct as i have snapped quite a few over the years.

You can get Stainless Steel ones.
