there is no comparison between a ford and a vw! VW wins every time!! I have a transit, only done 74000 miles but in the last year i have spent approx 2600 on it, new flywheel, clutch, slave cylinder, fuel pump, breaks, power steering tensioner, you know the funny thing, every time i took it too the garrage they would say "yeah, thats a common fault with them" lol I would never go near ford again. I once had a 15 year old vento for 2 years and NOTHING ever went wrong with her! My next ven will def be a veedub. Hope you get better luck with yours dave ;-)

Exactly my experience Charlie - My Transit was 5 years old, and over 100,000 miles so I expected some problems. First the starter cable exploded, then the starter motor ground to a halt, then the brake discs went caput, the engine sounded like a bag of nails, the diesel injectors gave up the ghost, then the "floating" flywheel started to die. Final nail in the coffin was the rotten underside (only good for scrap mate). Ah the pleasures of Ford ownership.....

However, the latest Ford Transits might have galvanised bodies, returned to a solid flywheel, stopped fitting carbon fibre gold plated diesel injectors, installed safety cutout system on the starter circuit and included a 4 year break down warranty.... just like a Volkswagen Transporter. Course there is room to carry all those spare parts for the Sigma cutter cos Transit has more space!

Dave, I once had a 6 month old mondeo zetec s (prettiest car ever btw) it also developed both gearbox and flywheel issues within its first year. Ive really been put off ford for good. Im still gonna wish you good luck mate but hope you dont need it

I run an 07 Mondeo ST TDCI, had it 4 years last month & its broken down on me once, EGR valve.

Red line on a nice warm engine sorted it out no problem.

Just your luck i suppose, stunning looking cars though!

Been a great car m8, thinking about selling it as it hardly turns a wheel these days, im out all day & the miss's is a driving instructor so it only gets a run at the weekend if we are away somewhere.

On the transit front, i just dont like them compared to my own van, imo the primastar, trafic, vivaro's are a better van.
