Hi

These are probably the first of many questions whilst attempting to tile our bathroom, but...

My partner has decided that we should use bathroom black, ceramic mosaic tiles (20mm x 20mm with 2mm grout lines) on both the walls (part of the wall will be around a mixer shower above the bath) and floor, with either dark grey or black grout – so I wondered if anyone could recommend the best adhesive and grout to use?

I’ve stripped the walls back to the original plaster, and skimmed to made good any imperfections, and I’ve also boarded the floor with 18mm external ply (over sound floor boards).

On other threads I’ve read its best to use a 3mm spreader and Bal Mosaic Fix for the walls – I can only find this in white, will this cause problems with the grout lines being dark grey or black?

For the floors I was think of using either Bal Fast Flex or Ardex Flex – is this right?

Cheers - Nick

Hi nick..

Mapei adislex P9 is pefect for those tiles and can be bought in grey as well.....and a lot cheaper then mosaic fix..and use keraquick on the floor.

Mapei do a nice grout in dark grey as well....I think the code is 114....but check up on that...dark grey grout will make the tiles look better than black grout IMO ..

Hi Nick,
You can use white adhesive with black grout but your joints in your mosaic will have to be spotless with no adhesive near the suface. You could use a single part flexible grey but again your joints should be clean for grouting. A 3mm spreader would be fine and a grouting tool to tap your mosaics into the adhesive. If your've got 18mm ply use a fast setting spf
