Hi guys, i`m a newbie to the forum but not to tiling. I have been tiling for many years now but i have come across a problem over the last few days which maybe some of you have already experienced or maybe have heard of. I have just laid 25m2 of terracotta tiles and i sealed them with one coat of Lithofin primer prior to laying. The day after laying the tiles i gave them a second coat only to discover the next day that some of the tiles were tacky on the surface with a shiny look to them. I have spoken to the Lithofin helpline and also to Fired Earth where the tiles and sealer were bought and they gave me some advise. What i would like to know is...has anybody out there experienced this problem with the Lithofin as i feel that there maybe a problem with the "NEW FORMULA" that they now have...PS I have been using Lithofin for years now with no problem until now

Welcome along. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you have excess sealer/impregnator that should have been buffed off with a dry cloth or white spirit.

Welcome to the forum, I have only ever used boiled linseed oil on terracotta tiles, I dont know the product you mention.
I would suggest the same as Brian, maybe too much product on the tile?

Hi, it is the Lithofin classic primer... Fired Earth recommended 2 - 3 coats. It has only affected a small percentage of the tiles but it is a bloody mess, they recommended the WEXA to remove the excess diluted 1/10 but that didn`t work..nor has it worked when applied on neat

The excess sealer was removed but it still remained shiny and left a sticky residue on the tile surface
