Hi there, I'm a recent addition to the building industry after spending 30 years in the IT industry. I have recently completed an introductory plumbing course( 5 days ) and am now on a tiling course ( 5 days) with a view to becoming a bathroom fitter. I would appreciate any feedback or advice on how to go about getting some experience.
I am fairly comfortable with the plumbing side of things and have plumbed in a sink, bath, shower, pedestal basin and bidet. The tiling course is giving me even more confidence that I can make a go of this, although so far I have only tiled a wall with a window, sink and a couple of waste outlets. Not much I know but I'm learning fast.
What I need next is some real work to get me some experience. Anyone got any ideas?

Hi Gazz, I've seen your name in quite a few of the posts, You're an experienced tiler I presume. I used to live in Lytham St Annes, my parents still do. This is a new career for me, I was in the IT industry for 30 years and got sick of it. The moneys good but not the job satisfaction. I've done a plumbing course and finished my tiling course today. I'm aiming at the bathroom fitting market so figured I'd get multiskilled.
Do you have any advice on tiling tools I'm going to need? I saw on one of the posts a starter kit for £99.00 without wet cutter. Is that good value?

Kev

Hi Brian, thanks for the welcome. I did the plumbing course near where I live, Reading. It was really good, gave me the basic understanding of a household water delivery system. Most of the course was hands on ( soldering, cutting, bending etc) with a bit of theory. Enough to give me the confidence to do a complete bathroom installation. The course costs £390.00 and was well worth the money. How about you? Is tiling your main trade or do you have others?

Kev
