nice start to fishing seaon

went out fishing for first time this season, mainly to blow the cobwebs off my rod and reel, conditions were very poor, bright sunlight, river at below summer levels and didn't really expect much happening at all. But hey-ho, managed to pull in a lovely 4lb grilse, (small summer salmon). Just nice for a bbq:8:

it's the river that runs past the house where I grew up, I'm sure I got my first rod when I was only 6, but kids these days are a lot less savvy about fast flowing water I think. Maybe I'm being too protective (or just like being on my own when I go fishing!)

so very true buddha and i must admit that when i was 5 I learned to swim in the river that I go fishing to

from a river Scott, totally different way to sitting down and kipping. Rod, reel and tackle bag, (game fishing you only take what you can carry, plus abit less in case you catch a few fish that you have to carry too), Chest waders, I prefer the stocking foot version, landing net.
I usually bait fish and that invoves putting a worm on a hook and trolling it downstream, all the better if I can see the salmon/sea trout that I'm stalking as I can then cast about 6 foot upstrem of it and lure it. Anyway, I'm giving my tips away:lol: will post pics on FB of any more I get this season mate
