This i why you should not try and nick live copper cable.

Warning! Very graphic pictures....not pretty.

Downtown Detroit copper thieves were trying to pull a 13,200 volt live wire out of a conduit.

Note: The bolt cutter and the copper wire on the ground. They cooked to WELL DONE - both of them.

some idiot nicked a couple of lengths of 22mm copper gas pipe clipped on the gable end of a new build were i'm working last week, it wasn't live but i wouldn't be surprised if that would have stopped them. they caused a lot of work for a few quid of scrap copper
