Advice requested, we are novices about to start a wet room and would like advice to make sure that we have got all things covered.

We plan to remove the floor boards, strengthen across the joints and put in a marmox shower tray, we plan to use the marmox 10m heat/wet boards on the floor and in the rest of the room but should we take the floorboard up as well? I dont want to have a step entering the room.

We then plan to put the tape across the joints applied with flexi adhesive and which board attachers are best the plastic or the metal? We will use stainless steel screws.

Then we will use the BAL wet room kit over the shower area but should I also put extra membrain down on the rest of the floor? Its not a huge room and rather be safe than sorry, all corners etc will be taped with the membrain and coating.

We would also like to put in underfloor heating, this then goes on top of the wet room kit and flexi adhesive on top secures the tiles.

So my questions are -

Do you think I have got everything covered?
Plastic or metal board attachers?
Is marmox heat board the same as wet board or do I buy two different types (one wall and one floor) (10m)?
Membraine over the whole floor or just the shower area?
Do you need to membrain wall if using wet board?

Any anything else you think I may have missed?

Thanks

Violet

Re: Novise starting wet room project

Hi violet, when you say that you are novices, is this a job in your own home or a job? Have you considered using a professional for the work?

A wet room is not a DIY job, many brands try to make tiling and bathroom fitting seem extremely easy to sell their products to the public and make a huge profit but in reality it is work for a specialist as there are countless things that can go wrong and if they do go wrong it will be very expensive to put right.

This is a job in my own home, we have got a friendly builder to help us we are not doing it ourselves but like you say lots of people and companies say buy this or that and it will work.

Me and the builder just wanted to make sure that we have covered all angles. We have read and watched lots of suggestions on here and on You tube.

Currently suggest using a marmox shower board, 20m marmox floor sheets and 10m marmox for walls. Tanking with Bal W1, all seams edges will be covered and taped, for extra protection we were thinking on putting another layer of waterproof membrain on the floor and up the walls then underfloor heating using powder flexible cement then tiles.
