Just filled the nearly empty windscreen washer reservoir with tap water with tiny bit of washing up liquid added and I just read you're not supposed to do that? Only use proper screen washing fluid?? Soo..... over to you, after you probably stopped laughing :blush2:

It wont do any damage but not as effective as screen wash which is cheaper.

Screen wash is cheaper than washing up liquid? The no damage sounds good... it says in the service manual that it can clog up the pipes bladibla...

It may do, I doubt it though but all these things tend to be based on long term use and also a ploy to get you to only " Vauxhall, Ford, Seat etc" brand fluid

Halfords have an offer on screen wash, lasts for ages.

washing up liquid is a rusting agent you know.. and can clog up the washer jets..

I just looked in the garage cupboard and we have two bottles!! Blinking heck... it's been years and years since I topped up the windscreen wash, didn't have my own car for a while, and H did it all that sort of thing in the meantime, I know, typical woman :blush2: ...when the reservoir gets lower is it ok to top it up with the windscreen wash mix then or will that turn into something nasty with the left over washing up liquid solution? Am I having a blonde moment? Probably... :blush2:

Will be fine, but you could just empty it now, will only take a couple of minutes then fill up with washer fluid.

Ahhhh, I'd empty it. There's usually just a circlip thing under the bottle holding the tube on, you could just undo that and let it run out, or hold the screen wash stick back for a few mins.

I've never had a problem with fairy damaging my washers, but I have had a problem with monkeys......... At a visit to Longleat Safarie Park this year, a monkey decided to eat both of mine, from the frond of my new Landrover, ending up with a bill of £200.00.

Tried everything...... there was no way it was leaving without the washers. Checked the whole car before we went in to see if there was anything they could pull off. never thought they would do that!

Back to the wipers.. hohum... followed the suggestion to empty and the filling hose came off very easily and conveniently, refilled with screen washer, feeling very pleased with myself and now the water isn't going through to the windscreen!!! :yikes: it going through to the back, so I assume there could be some air in the front pipes? Not a good thing to happen in a somewhat stressed about other stuff state.... any suggestions? Did I mention I love this place?
