Im a single mum trying to sort my house out pleeeaseee help!

Ive pulled the tiles off my bathroom wall, and most of the thin skim of plaster came of with most of the tiles.
My question is what is that left behind. is it a scratch coat of render, or is it bonding coat of plaster or browning stuff...(ive been googling :smilewinkgrin🙂
Ive attatched some photos.

I need to know if i can tile directly onto it, i will get the rest of the loose plaster off first, its pretty flat and sound. I REALLY dont wanna have to re plaster.
Do i need to prime it first?

ANY help greatly appreciated, i consider myself a competent diy'er and try my hand to everything with great success usually.

Thankyouuu ***

Hi and welcome...bit hard to tell from the photos, how old is the property and have you tried to dig a screw driver into the backing coat to see how hard it is.....

Hi Tara, I live in stevenage and most of the walls in the new town are fly ash poured concrete walls ,your walls dont look like they are fly ash though

Its hard, and looks to me like..sand mixed with small stones :/ Ive stuck a screw driver into it, and its about 8-10mm thick and grey/black dust was coming out after that..breeze block? x
