Hi guys.
Ive just priced up a job 45 sq meters of travertine, layed in a opus romano style(4 diffrent sizes).
Well anyway i think have bitten of more than i can chew as i have never laid this pattern before and wondered how its layed out,as it goes thought the downstars area.
Starting in the kitchen to hall and toilet/bathroom.
Also the concrete floor is all over the place as walls have been removed so i will have to self level a fair bit of it.
Have won the job but not feeling to confident about it.
Thanks.

Hi Muttley.

You need to get the floor level.

Here's a pic of the pattern..............do as I did and copy and paste it to a bigger sheet........then print it out.

Dry lay until you are happy with the longest run (kitchen/hall?)

There is no getting away from it.........but you will end up with silly cuts somewhere........but with proper setting out.......you can limit these.

Oh........White adhesive and dont forget 2 coats of sealer before grouting

Here's mine

Kitchen/Dining room/Hall (hall not done yet)utility room. 32m in total

Caution !!

Opus romano can come in 2 formats check this

Generally __You will get 4 x 20x20 tiles in each module and these are spaced as ususal but will never be regular spacing,

Some modules are comming in with what appear to be 2x20x20 but two of these tiles are a different size and its these 2 differing size tiles that create your spacing and keep it regular.

It sounds complicated but its not really as long as you spot it you will be cool

Easyest way

Draw a line down the diagram above from the top left of B cutting through the tiles below forget whats to the right of the line, I ususlly fold the sheet on the line. Put this line against your skirtin. The format will repeat itself again to the left of the diagram.

Doing it like this you have a line and can do your measuring to get a start (forget centers)

Last One

Check with the supplier for a format diagram as there are more than 1 format they will fax it to you if your still not sure ask and I will help out

Seems that its gonna be fun to set out. You could take a chance by setting out the main room and just hope that your lucks in with the other rooms. If your keen to set out the whole area, then work it out on the basis of the smallest tile. If its a 20 X 20 then set out as if the whole area was to be laid with those size tiles.

Thanks for the advice guys.
I seem to have got my head around the planning of it.
Next Problem seems to be the leveling of it as it is a farm house that is almost open plan now with walls knocked out etc the floor levels are diferrent 3 diffrent levels ie.bathroom, hall, kitchen(kitchen is made up of the original kitchen and what was the front room.)Will self leveler be good enough to make up the diffrent lvls.
Not all will have to be done but to try to get a uniform level is going to be hard i think.
about 28 sq meters will need doing i think.

PS any tilers from east sussex way on this forum?
