order to put up tiles in

hi there,
iv got to tile a bathroom for a close friend in afew weeks . she wants the border down about a foot from the ceiling alll around.
i was wondering what order do you use to put them up. do you tile up to the bottom of the border all around and then put on the border when that has gone off a bit or fully. or do you put the whole lot up in one go and work the full height around as you go.

its probably just personl preference or is thaere a standard way of doing it.

Set out the whole room with a gauging stick and work out aprox what fits where, make sure the border dos'nt leave you slivers to the ceiling and work out to the highest part of the ceiling if it's all over the place...

the border will be down about 10 inchs or so and the tiles are 16inchs i think.

If the tiles are 10x16 don't leave it to 10inch's from the border to ceiling, check how level the ceiling is and if it's good then go for 9inchs which gives you less chance of slivers.....but also consider the rest of the bathroom setout...

Are the border tiles the same thickness as the field tiles? Often border tiles are thinner, and need a thicker bed of glue behind them, to make sure they are flush with the other tiles. If this is the case, always put on the thicker tiles 1st, then the border

What sort of border are you fitting? If it's a mosaic then ensure to put spacers all through the mosaic lines on each row. You don't want the weight of the tile(s) squashings your grout lines.

Either try to complete the border at the end of the day - so it is set hard enough to tile above, or use rapid set adhesive mixed with hot water - it may set as you fix!

Yes, when to put up the border will depend what kind of border really.
A solid border can be put on as you work up to the ceiling.
A mosaic border, I might finish at the border and leave it overnight to take more tiles in the morning.
A thin mosaic border, I might leave it until last and build up the bed with a dogtooth .

If its a moasic border you will have to put a rip around the bathroom first

As above. Mossaics IMO need batons,,Rigid borders are faster without.
