Photos I promised last October...Brick floor

Sorry for the delay, but here's a photo of the reclaimed brick floor I laid in my Kitchen/diner. Hope you like it. I love it, and I'm now on the hunt for some more to finish the other end of the room!

Wouldn't look right in a modern house, but mine is an old cottage, and the original floor would have been pamments/bricks laid on earth. The photo doesn't do the colours justice. I'd do the rest of the house too, if I could afford it!

I like that , what did you seal them with ?

Sealed them with something called Easyseal, from a local supplier. Water based, microporus, and doesn't change the look of the bricks. OK, but they are a pig to clean, so I'm gonna varnish them when the rest of the room is finished. I'm thinking about Bonakemi Mega satin.
I wanted a rustic look, but this finish isn't practical. I'm getting too old for scrubbing them on my hands and knees! Not bad for a woman though, eh?

Great ! are they a full brick thickness or did you cut them down to slips ?..........did you fix them in mortar or addy ?

They are 2.75 inches, full bricks. Laid them in 4:1 soft sand/cement, pointed them with the same ratio, but used white cement. The other half of the floor is gonna be done with full bricks, floor bricks and pamments. All different thicknesses so will be fun!

I'd try and find a more practical sealer before you varnish them. If you don't like the look once it's done you've ruined the floor. I really rate Fila Satin wax. You can apply it neat or put some into the water as you mop. This really feeds the floor and will make it easier to maintain.

i like it looks good yes the sealer was always your problem form your last thred but well done. :hurray: I would look for a local brick cutter to cut them to 20mm thick two out of one brick but i am a tiler just had a pallet of different bricks delivered just to do that

Fila satin wax - thanks for the suggestion. Does it need removing and reapplying when it wears? How does it change the appearance?

PJC - most of them have only one decent face, so cutting would be a waste of time. And TBH an expense I can do without, on a very tight budget. I looked at your brick slips a while ago - very nice. I'd love to find a place to use them here, but again, funds don't allow. I should have been a rich mans daughter!

Rainsco - the photo doesn't do the colours justice. I'll try to get a more accurate one tomorrow.
