Plaster board and porcelain tiles

Hi can any give me some advice, i'm a plumber by trade but do the odd tiling job for friends if asked. I have a mate who had two tilers around to give a quote but neither have come back to him, so he has asked me to tile his bathroom from floor to ceiling with 600x300 porcalin tiles, I've done this once before for myself (that's why he asked me) but all the walls were solid with a render finish. My mate has plaster board walls with slight damage where they took off the old tiles.

What I would like to know is would plaster board be stong enough for these heavy tiles? Or should I strengthen each wall with some other board and if so what type of board.

OR just walk away like the last two?

hi porc is heavy the walls you mentioned i would not recomend you need to reline with cement sheet or simular depending whats avail and screw every 200mm someone will come along with prefered sheet is it a shower wall to you may need waterproofing hope this helps :8:

Bare plasterboard can take 32kg per square metre max. If it has been skimmed, then this is reduced to 20kg per square metre. This of course will include adhesive, so you need to calc how heavy the tiles are per square metre, add on a bit for adhesive, and see if you are near the limits....

Porc tiles will need a flexible cement based adhesive too

Adhesive and grout add approx 3.5kg per mtr.

that means it should be about 26.5 kilo per mtr that would be fine with me ete
