Hi there,

I am after some advice - any help is much appreciated.

I am currently re-tiling a small portion of the kitchen. It is the area behind the cooker which is around 1.5m squared.

I have removed the original tiles and as you can see from the pictures, some of the plaster has come off (or at least I think it is plaster).

Picture 1: showing stone/brick where the plaster has come off with the tiles.

Picture 2: another area

My questions are:

1. What should I do here? Is it necessary to get the whole 1.5m squared area re-plastered? If so, then how long do I have to wait for the plaster to completely dry before I can put the new tiles up? Or can I tile onto the brick/stone or is it render? Or is there something else I can use to fill any the parts that have come off?

2. From picture 1 - at the top right - you can just about see that there is a plug box buried in the wall. This plug is no longer required so it is just the empty plug box left. I was just tiling over it to cover it. Is this wise? Or do I need to fill the hole with something first?

Thank you for your help,

Kev

dont bother with plaster. use adhesiv to level it off its quicker, easier, or BAL quick render stuff it sets in abut 2hrs, brush off loose stuff and prime it but not with pva.

So:

1. Use BAL quick render to fill in the gaps.
2. Once this is dry - prime the whole area with something else before tiling. Any suggestions on what to use to prime with? Will something like BAL primer do?

Thanks
