Plasterer learning to tile

Learn plastering 1st mate (plastering is much much much more than a bit of skimming and a bit of board) unfortunately , like phil said, very well, not like the rest of the muppets, all trades are very diluted, i served 4 years plastering(we did tiling as well, as plasterers around the ribble valley seemed to do this)and learnt all aspects, but was still learning after and still am now!
Nearly 30 years now, i tile mostly now, something i ve picked up more and more all these years,my lads do the plastering.
You will find folk in every trade who think they are royalty, especially on forums , try and ignore em, try its hard

Hey dont take offence plastertile 🙂. Hostorically it was painters who used to do the basic tiling on stuff like council housing. However in the 26 yrs I've been doing the job it has completely changed. Honestly , if you could learn to plaster as well as the old gaurd used to do it, you'd have more than enough work to worry about without even thinking about tiling.

Diggy :+)

Thanks for the reply guys i will take it om all board and thanks for very kind offer phil

Plaster tile good luck mate with your courses , i was a plasterer turned tiler many years ago, and i think we have a few bitter and twisted guys on this forum, they are running scared of a bit of course /foreign competition , once you are a full confident tradesman like me ,you are not scared of any-other tradesman as you are at ease that you are good at your trade,! , so don't listen to any guys putting you down about doing a course, some of the best tilers on this forum have come from courses , and as Phil says there are a lot out there who talk a good job...... stick around on the forum and hang-in there we need new blood on this forum ........

Thanks diamond pool finishers formthat i plan to do a proper apprenticeship just looking to add another string to my bow. Well to to you thanks.

Join this forum as well mate it will help you with your questions on plastering Broken Link Removed And another bit of advice is read your posts before hitting the send button as parts are not making any cense unless you are dyslexic ........

I served my time plastering and tiling was classed as part of plastering, as with all things each aspect became more specialised, for instance I never get to run cornice now but back in the day I didn't tile with anything bigger than 10" x 8" either. Good luck with everything and don't forget that the only "stupid question" is the one that you don't ask 😉

good luck to you ,you sound a sensible lad ,not one who thinks tilers used to be bus drivers or such things, i know a few who did tiling and plastering as a trade
