Ply for shower walls?

If WBP 18 ply is used for shower wall and well screwed down to robust stud work, is it ok? Or is tilebacker board the better option always as a wall covering?

Tile backer board is the better safer way to go

I wouldnt use wood in any wet area...actually i wouldnt use wood for tiling at all.

Backer (aqua) board is best, but ply is better than better than the dreaded plasterboard:yikes:!!
make sure you us suitable adhesive if going onto ply! good luck!

never use ply in a wet area....the best on the market in my opinion is the new Kerdi board from schluter totally waterproof, light weight and easy to install ....check it out its an eye opener

wedi advantages over backerboard...

higher thermal value
more water resistant
more options for thickness ie 4mm to 50mm
curved partitioning systems
you can construct steps, boxing in with wedi board without the need of timber.
easier to cut
lighter in weight.

[FONT=&quot]Whichever product you use, just make sure you follow manufacturers guidelines, as they all have different maximum recommended weight limits, per square meter of tile and adhesive, that they can take (cause it doesn’t look as nice in the bath as it does on the wall!), the heavier the tiles the more fixing you may require (adhesive, screws/dowels, adhesive and screws/dowels etc), with wedi you have to increase the number of dowels per square metre etc[/FONT]

Interesting that ive often wondered if MR board is actualy needed as it is being tanked.
