polished porcelain sealing Why??

why do tile shops tell people to seal polished porcelian, I've been tiling for seven years and have never had a problem with staining so why do people think this. The grout should be sealed if wanted but the tiles don't absorb sealer.
The only problem with polished porcelian i have is when metal leaves black marks on it . Any of yous guys wit me on this . THe american sites seem to think no sealing required only to grout.

When porcelain is polished it leave micro pores on the surface, the sealer fills these pores so less chance of collecting dirt over a time

I always thought it was to stop the grout that fills the tiny microscopic pores from discolouring, might be wrong tho'

And the grout as well, like a 30+ tiler I was talking to who had never sealed but did say he had trouble when cleaning the grouting off the tiles:smilewinkgrin:

i always dust my polished porcelian tiles , i think this is more a problem, tilers not dusting there tiles. Then its a problem to clean off grout so i think this is the problem not the sealing at all.

I think the phrase 'micro scopic' is pretty vital in this debate.

If the pores are microscopic, what are the chances of grout or dirt building to the extent they become visible??

Never understood the hoo haa about sealing polished porccy.

Sealing polished porcelain ( through bodied) is to aid in the maintenence of it, by sealing the microscopic pores it helps customer in cleaning it and in time dirt can grab the pores and it will look dull...sealing before grouting will help with the clean up but the main purpose is the after care of the floor....

As polished porceline is not porous, which is the best way to apply sealer (I usually use a small roller for slate). Cheers

always seal polished porc covers your a.... because it will stain when it first came on market a lot of resturants had there floors tiled (pol por ) no sealer , now nearley all have removed due to not being able to clean stains out, orange juice is a good stainer for polished. apply the sealer as per directions on can as they all vary :8:

You are exactly right. And after its done with a good product I.e fila polished porcelain sealer, it will never require re sealing.
