Poor Quality tiles

Can anyone help?

Im in the middle appartment block refurb, we ve fitted some 200x100 tiles (brick bond) and now the lights have been put on its showing alot of lips. I know down lights dont help, but when ive opened a few boxes of tiles, checked some and found some of them to be like bananas for example a steel rule lenght ways across the tile and you can fit a 2mm spacer under the rule. ive had the rep out from the manufacturer he took some away then came back to me saying the ve been back through Quality control and passed and nothing they can do. Any Advise on my next step as this is going to cost me big time, or where i stand legally Trading Standards maybe?

you wont have any joy with trading standards . or the tile manufacturer once the tiles are fixed.
may be take out the worst lippers.
or tell the client they are hand made and ment to be that way.

These arent a hand made tile there a english standard contract tile didnt want to mention the manufacturers name at this stage. I understand you havnt a leg to stand on regarding shading issues once the tiles are fixed, but it dosent state anywhere on the box that the fixer should check for quality. We ve fixed 24 000 tiles on this site we cant be expected to check all those surely?

i feel for you...... 500m2 (ish) however if you fix them you accecpt liability....bog standard disclaimer......and i only know 1 english company that make 20x10......johnsons......and their products are now produced in s.africa and india....very little, if any in the u.k....not that they are johnsons.....but they might be? are they?

p.s how did you not notice in the first few metres?

i see where you are going enduro and i understand the train of thought...... if the customer has supplied the materials for the job, you can argue that the materials are thier responsability.........i personally would not want to argue that in court.......better you try and come to an amacible solution?.......sometimes in life you must bite the bullet........even if the bullet is huge!

yeah they were H&Rs the Quality is Dyer atm, we did supply, even the distributor i bought them through said they look like seconds. suprisingly they werent noticable till lights on and grouted oh well :mad2:

Not going to help you I know but I used to make it a rule to tile with the lights on even in the day if they were fitted. Especially downlights and spots. They are a pain in the arse even if the tiling is good they show faults that aren't even there with the shadowing they cause.:furious3:
