porcelain - clean breaks

Does anyone sometimes have problems when cutting large format (ie 600mm) porcelain tiles?
Using a Rubi TS 60 Plus, with a new cutting wheel, but occasionally the tiles dont break cleanly, have tried scoring really hard or a couple of times, using a swift breaking action, but still not breaking cleanly :smash:

any other tips!! very frustrating!

thats what i was thinking, the TS 60 plus is not really up to it, on hard porcelain tiles

na its not mate,i use the ts 50 plus for normal ceramic jobs but no way would it be doing tough porcelain regularly..whwre u based? theres a tx700 on ebay sitting at 99p its in leicester pick up only they say,,bargain

seen it, its got a reserve on it ,for over £200, still not too bad. But too big and heavy!

You using a 18 mm gold wheel?
It makes a fair difference. Also find my rubi applies more pressure to one side of the score than the other, i compensate by leaning on the lighter side as i press with the bar. Maybe thats just my breaker though but it works for me.

i'v just been using the 6mm and 10 mm wheels. Was looking at the gold wheels and was wondering if they make much of a difference? Might give one of those a go, before i kick the cutter into touch, and get a new rubi Ti-s-66?

You may be using an incorrect scoring wheel.
Also it is possible that you may be pressing on too hard when scoring. The amount of pressure applied can make a marked difference to the cleanness of cut.

tx 700 n great cutters, only use mine on big tiles and hard tiles

i find a nice quick score and a clean break usually gives decent cut the ts 60 plus should manage that

Get one of the 18mm wheels from tiletrader. Score it hard and firm the while length, I would wreck a 6mm wheel with the pressure i score a 600 porcelain tile with.

I used the bigger of the two wheels it came with for the 600x300 porcelain tiles. It was fine for straight cuts but 45 degree cuts - that's where the wet cutter came into its own.
