porcelain or not

Hi i just had given 2 me 7 sq m of wall tiles off my lovely mum who had them left over from her bathroom a year or 2 ago. on the back of the tiles they say italy porcelina, they look ceramic tho, and i have done the marker test on a tile and it wiped off easy and ran water on the bk of the tile and it soaked in.also why do you have to run water on the bk of the tile as a test.:stupid:

Porcelain tiles don't absorb water. The absorption rate should be less than 0.5% for porcelain. If it soaks in and takes more than a few seconds for the water to evaporate after wiping off then the moisture has got into the tile, so isn't porcelain.

The thing with porcelain is that it is meant to look like other things.

Its designed so that the surface is an imitation of other finishes.

Not sure if we sold your mum any diamond drills to cut hers first lot but if you get stuck we have a good selection in stock.
