Porcelanosa feature tile

I

Ian

Howdy all, I know this has been discussed a couple of times but, I'd like a couple of opinions if you'd be so kind. A customer wants these tiles fitted in a shower and I've said that it shouldn't be done due to the fact that they are butt jointed so there won't really be any grout joints. Will tanking make any difference or should I be politely asking them to choose another tile?

Politely ask them to choose another tile imho , we were having the same conversation on site the other day - where this has been used in a couple of rooms. We both agreed that it will probably let water through , even though apparently according to P'nosa , there is enough room on the face to grout all over. Again , we don't think there is and believe the grooves on the face are too shallow.

All in our humble opinion of course .

Diggy :0)

They can be grouted all over ,that's a fact as I have done this myself.

They were used in a shower area ,which was tanked, as far as am aware there have been no problems except that I laid them portrait and they wanted landscape, luckily enough I laid them as they were on the sample board that the customer chose so they had to stay 🙂 .

I done a 4m feature wall where the tiles we like split faced and took me about 2 hours as he wanted it grouted

Well ut took me as lng as needed to get it spot on. Perhaps some people are quicker thankl me. As long as we dont lose out then were all happy 😀

Are these ones split faced? I can't tell from this pic to be honest!?! I can understand that grouting split faced tiles could take ages.. 😉

It's a whole tile, ceramic. There isn't really anything to grout once they're fitted, they just butt up to each other.

Yep, but is it flat, or split faced? I'd think a fine grout would get into the joint where the tiles butt up, but whether it would stick to the whole tile... Who knows!?!

Trust me ,or not! you can grout the whole face of the tile,i used mapei ultra colour plus in charcoal.

Yep I grouted them and I hate them horrible bloody things wouldn't use them in a shower actually I wouldn't use them in my shed and in Sml tilings defense it doesn't matter how long it takes to grout them you do a bang on job that's all that matters

If its the same horrid tile that topps sell (there was a thread on here a couple of weeks ago..tile from hell) then I wouldnt touch it with a barge pole..

There could be a lot of water getting through any ungrouted joints and even if the moisture zone is fully tanked the water could possible spread out laterally and passed the tanking.
