I had a call from a lady today about tiling her bathroom.Iknew she had other quotes as she said are you the tiler from Kirkintilloch ,yes i said so straight away i thought here goes she has had loads of quotes and she is after another...i thought twice about going to quote for the job ...but you need to be in it to win it ,so off i went to quote.Turned up at door gave woman my card, took shoes off at door and went to price job, explained what was needing done and the husband says when can i do it,so gave a date of a week on Tuesday which they were happy with and seemed happy with my quote but then he says we have someone else coming round at seven to quote so we will let you know, fine i said and said my goodbyes.Low and behold he called at half seven saying he was really happy with the quote etc and the job was mine, great i said .

The bottom line here is you can never work out the public and what they are thinking and you should always make the effort to quote even if you think you are selling a dead horse.....

Good one. At least you didn't get into a 'can you beat that tilers price' sort of thing.

Went into a house last month knowing full well that at least two others had been but didn't lower my price though because I thought I was getting on really well with them. Two weeks later I got the 'nicest' letter of rejection. Apparently all three quotes were the same ish as was the 'professionalism' They just gave it to the tiler who had been recommended by a family member and two of us were being used as a pricing exercise! Not too bothered, at least I know my prices are somewhere near the mark.

I went to quote for a trav floor with UFH, gave the customer my cards and explained they would get a full discount from my local tile shop. They seemed very happy with the price (which was very competative) then suddenly they stalled saying they had another chap out and where going to go with him. Perfectly entitled too aswell but I wasted 2 trips going out to see them with different samples. I felt like a right D1{1<. :mad2:

I recently found out through the vine that the guy they got in made a right arse of it. So now I feel bit snug about it but I also feel genuinly bad for the other tiler cos I know who he is, and he's just tiling like the rest of us.

Moral of the story is some customers are sneeky c*nts and to be quite honest I would rather not provide a service to them.

Miby I look into it a bit too much but even if this customer phoned me up now and asked i redo it for my origonal price, I would probably decline.

No seriously I would take on any job, but some customers are really hard work ehh??

People are usually going to get a few quotes in though, I know i would get at least two quotes if i was having something done, infact were looking around for a conservatory and have had 4 quotes so far, with another one still to be done.

I know jack all about conservatories so its about making an informed choice after hearing quotes and advice from afew different people.

All we can do is turn up, be honest and polite and see what happens.

If they go with the cheapest and it ends up a right mess, that's their problem, they chose to ignore the advice and go with the cheapest, it still amazes me that people go for the cheapest option, you get what you pay for, When I get quotes in for whatever I generally go for the mid price, i usually find that its the best combination of value for money and quality.

People getting a few quotes is the nature of the beast IMO.

That's just plain rude and disrespectfull IMO, sadly a reflection of how our society seems to be going in places

I completely agree mate, I waffled on a bit but my point was that if someone's going to get several quotes, ultimatley one of the people who qoute are going to get the work, and all we can do is put our best foot forward when were doing it, and do what we can to make sure were the best of the bunch so to speak, as you obviouslly did mate and got the job.

I know what you mean Bri,just wasted an hour going to do a quote somewhere.Don't think they have any intension of having any work done, think there just seeing what my price would of been cause they mentioned their brother in law had been on a tiling course.

Don't these people realise it costs us petrol and time that could be better spent:mad2:

One more to go by the way to join the club:thumbsup:
