Power source for UFH

Hi all,

You'll have to forgive me if sounds like a stupid question. Thinking of laying some electric UFH in my en-suite. I'm happy with the laying of the wires/mat but havn't the first clue about electrics. Do you have to use an existing power source? Outside of the en-suite there are switches for the towel radiator and extractor fan. Could these be used in conjunction or does a sparky need to install a new feed/switch. Excuse my ignorance.

Cheers
Pete

You can take a feed from an existing socket, you need to provide a fused spur for the UFH, Dont try this yourself, get a qualified electrician to do it for you as he can sign it off as safe and that it conforms to regulations. Test the UFH prior and after fitting, record the readings, also do this for the probe.

It also depends on the wiring... Some times they need an independent feed if the wattage is too high for the exisiting ring main/wiring.

So a new feed is needed from the DB to the Mat spur.

Always check with a qualified spark first..

I agree Dave, the only reason I did not mention that is because an en-suite was mentioned, as you say if the wattage is over a certain reading then a connector block needs to be incorporated.

A connector block?

All UFH must be RCD protected

Get a sparky in rather than taking bad advice, Your home and safety is at risk

Sim, if you think I mean a small choc block then I dont, Its a piece of kit that regulates the flow to the UFH, its about £120 and it does it job just fine.
I dont connect UFH, I have a sparky do it for me, if you read my post you would see that I advised to get a sparky to do all the electrical work!
I also told him to have a fused spur in place, read the post.
No bad advice was given ok?
