Hi everyone,

Just a quick one, if laying a 18mm plywood floor to be tiled, what do I need to use to prime it ?

Is there an 'all-in-one' type one out there ? as I will need to prime plaster and plaster board and probably rendered walls also.

The priming requirements for ply vary according to your chosen adhesive manufacturer, however, in all cases you must seal (prime, bond) the reverse side and edges prior to laying the ply to reduce the possibility of moisture ingress to the board. For adhesives, if you are using BAL products, they stipulate NOT to prime. Ardex require you to use their P51 primer and Mapie, i'm not sure off the top of my head!

pretty much the above,mapei advise to prime plaster products that will be tiled onto

TBH Stu mate I never prime the surface of ply that I am tiling - like Grumpy states above I only ever make sure the underside and edges are sealed first

Then if it is free from deflection and dust free, you can pretty much tile direct with most adhesive manufacturers so long as you have chosen the correct adhesive

As above, when you decide on the adhesive you will be using. Ring their Tech dept, and take their advice

it really does depend on manufacturers recommendations, it usually states on the bag of adhesive wether to prime or not.

thank you for the replys guys, will check out the product spec when I get the gear and see what it says, just wanted to be sure.
