hello,iv recently been doing some work for a joiner who is very busy,,he has a 100 kitchen contract coming up and wants to sit down with me and get a price sorted for it,,i need some advice if possible on whats a fair and going rate for this kind of work as not done any contracts yet? feel free to pm me if you prefer cheers all

Have you given a price yet for the job or are you still looking for ideas?

Hello Kilty55,

The only questions I would want to ask are
1 - How many kitchens are going to be ready at one time.
2 - How often am I going to get paid.

This should tell you how long each phase will take and price up either per metre(small areas splashbacks) or day work basis.
And will you get paid for first phase before you start second etc.

The only other enquiry I would make is who have they used before and did they get paid. Some companies will spread the work to build credit in so called difficult times.:thumbsup:

Good for you mate, I think if you aint priced for a contract yet your safest bet would be to take on board what the others have advised, find out as much info as you can about time scales or deadlines, will you be doing all the kitchens back to back, or will you have a dozen on the go at one time which would mean you have to get other tilers in which will take you time and cost a bit of money which all need to be put into your quote. There is loads to think about so just ask loads of questions as to how he wants it done then take it away and post it back on here.

Im sure others on here could advise you on a few more questions to ask, seriously mate be very on top of it and please remember that although this is a great opportunity and is much easier to do than you might think, these big contracts can sometimes end up costing you money if you get them wrong!! Get all your info and bang it back on here and we'll help you sort it. Good luck Pal it's good to see someone doing well.

Thats a fair bit of work Kilty. 6 a week. Make sure your gonna make a profit on it m8, as you'll have to sub them out. Unless your gonna work 24hrs a day:smilewinkgrin:. Find out if there is a penatly clause if your l8 finishing them(subbies). Also make sure he knows that u want the prep work done on the walls. Makes it quicker for u.

Well said Saltire, and make sure you don't go down the road of thinking that just because he's doing so much work he's got to have a good rate, in fact if you have to get subbies in to help out then you really need to be charging more, not just because you had to find them and stuff but because all the responsibility of the job falls on your shoulders.


Just as a small example mate and this is a rough guide cos we all charge according to where we live etc. But if on general you charge yourself out at £150 per day then for this job for the subbies you wanna be looking in the region of charging at least £250-£300 per day for these guys. Or to make it easier you could just slap £100 per day per person on top of what you want to pay them.

This might sound a lot but trust me it's very normal to bang the prices up when your gonna run the whole show and all responsibility lands with you, some on here will probably think £100 a day on top is far to cheap. But like i say it does sort of depend on your area, project, circumstances etc so it is just a guide.
