Hi all, not the best of circumstances but................... To cut a long story short, I've got a job to do in Southhampton, I'm in the North East, it's for a friend, the job is ...

Splashback +/- 4.5 m2
Kitchen floor ( concrete ) +/- 10.5 m2

I'm getting a couple of pictures sent to me, been told that there's nothing out of the ordinary, straight forward job ( Mmmmmmmmmmm )

All materials supplied, bed and meals inclusive ;)

So how much would you charge if you had to go, and I do have to go .... lol

Thanks for the input / advice.

if he was good mate. i would treat it as a holiday while u were there and when tiling ask him to supply the beer then you get your money's worth of drink and meals and a holiday thrown in..... all inclusive holiday!!!!! whoopie.......

Agree with DH.....if he's a good mate........then just charge materials ans a little bung for yourself.

Don't you hate doing jobs for family and friends.........I loathe them....and the jobs:angel_smile:

If this job is for a favour or just experience the a freebee as long as you are not out of pocket, you get the work they get the work on the cheap.

If a paying job it depends on how much you want and need it.

Size of tiles, straight laying, diamond, brick all have to be taken into account

Just to answer a few questions, one condition of me going down there is that I charge, they have the money and wouldn't have it any other way. They've been quoted £800 ( labour only ) but just coz they've got money doesn't mean they're stupidly gonna throw it away.

Tiles are descibed as brick type on the splashback and something like 400's on the floor in standard formation.

It really is hard to judge but IF it's straight forward why the **** was the original quote so high ?? I've told them a price ( I'll come clean later ) and that of course that's a very rough guess, could be more could be less, still no pics yet :(

Thanks for all the comments so far.

Can't be much of a mate if your charging £500 and they are supplying materials, food & bed for the nights!

Like I said, condition of me going down was that I charged them. I also told them it could be more and / or it could be less. I don't think £500 less estimated £120 for fuel = £380 is a bad price for 15 m2 pricing blind. Or do you think that £380 is a bit steep ? How much would you have charged a mate if he said you had to Brh ?

Interesting to see others comment.

Well, you are charing £25 per m2 (once you exclude the petrol costs), and they are supplying the materials?
correct?

15m2, with most of it being a floor, I couldn't bring myself to charge a FRIEND more than £250 plus petrol...

but then again I'm not sure I have any friends I would travel 250+ miles for to do a small tiling job, especially when it can't really lead to any follow up work... as they are miles away and so can't recommend you to anyone else local.

Thanks for the reply mate, yeah, I see where your coming from, overall I'm only about $100 over what you would have charged, as I've said though,it was a rough price and it could go up and or down, if it turns out easy / less of a job, then of course, I'll adjust the price :)

I think this working for family and friends affair needs a whole lot of looking at, if it happens again that is.

Thanks for your point of view mate, appreciate the honesty.
