Hi all.

I totally understand that pricing is not for this side of the forum but I am in need of some help. My question is important mainly because I do not want to be going in too cheap when I start up this month. I'm pretty great at sales and have already got a lot of people wanting me to price up jobs but i'm putting it off for now. Van and tools are all in place but i'm stuck on pricing some repair jobs as I am not a member of the Forum Arms yet as I have not started trading yet, only for family and friends to build up my skills.

So to keep pricing out of it I would like to talk in percentages so I can get a feel for the answer without you guys having to say it.

I know what my m2 price is for fitting ceramic on good walls without materials and you all know what yours is, so using this as a guide I have a few questions ( please answer in percentages not pounds ) :

What percentage would you charge for the following :

Regrouting a m2
Fitting a m2 of 25mm of ply to a wooden floor
Same as above but to a screed floor
Removing a broken ceramic tile and replacing it including grout
Painting on 4m2 of PCI kit to a shower area

If this is just all too confusing please just ignore me and delete this tread, i've been working far too much lately and buying vans and learning all the in's and out's of setting up has been all too much for me lately :mad2:

Sorry for not posting this in the correct place

Happy days, many thanks for access. I've been pretty close to a nervous breakdown these last few weeks regarding setting up. Really proud to be getting the show on the road shortly, only some pricing issues and research into the company name I want to trade under. Seems most of the names I want are already taken.

So what you all drinking then ? I have a tenner so it'l have to be half's

I'd work as an hourly rate on each part of the job, fitting the ply, estimate how long it would take to cut and fit.

Thats the way I do it on small domestic work, trying to do it on a m2 just dos'nt work on that kind of work.

I used carry a stop watch when I first started on my own which gave a basic time how long it would take me to do each job.

Agreed, i'm happy with that. Pretty sure i'll do it that way also thanks. Hey is it me or has anyone else noticed that customers will spend 600 quid on a fancy bath but will then ignore any waterproofing aids or thinker plywood because of the extra cost !

I've had to pull all the stops out to get the point across.

somw of the people i drink with in my local live on their own planet, im always being asked to do jobs for them

this time last year when things were a bit quite i went and did a few.they were only little jobs, change a back door lock etc

they said mates rates and i agreed, anyone would think i had gone around and slept with their grandmother

i thought you were a mate they said and i replied what kind of mate expects a tradesman to come out and do a job for a tenner

the only good thing to come from it was i got reccomended on as being quite reasonable and a normal persons perception of reasonable was a lot more realistic than theirs

this year i refused as i have admin to do
