Discuss Pricing in the Canada Tile Advice area at TilersForums.com.

Recently priced a some extra work on a current job that I have ongoing. It is exterior work on a patio roughly 40sq metres 600x600 porcelain. I have priced at £35 per sq metre plus materials this also includes fixing the decoupling membrane. There is minimal cutting on the job. Do you think this is a fair price? Thanks

Thanks kilty I thought I was about right. Customer seems to think its a little too expensive I wouldn't mind I have already done five wet rooms in this property and they are very happy with the finish. The patio job is quite simple and shouldn't take long if weather conditions are good as there is very little cutting.

If you're making enough out of the job and the customers happy, then the price is right

I got a big kitchen order last night to supply and fit. Gutted, cos the look on their face when they saw the price. I could have easily stuck another grand on there and they wouldn't have batted an eyelid. I'm more than happy with what I'm getting and the customer unfortunately is over the moon shall we say.

I know what you mean John just done kitchen floor for a customer whilst there she told me she'd had a tiler in last year to quote for bathroom floor, his price was £450 for what wasn't much more than a days work. She said she would of happily paid it if she'd liked the fella. I only charged her that for 12 sq metres 600x600 porcelain plus materials. Still was done in two easy days so was happy. But you always think I could of had a bit more out of that one. Got her sisters to do too so can't complain.

That's exactly it, you do a good job, both parties are happy with the cost, and you will get recommended for more work. It's a natural occurrence that people will recommend you.

They no doubt feel £1400 for 4 days work is a bit more than they anticipated!

Haha ! I think it will run to a little more than four days John as I've already put some time in with the builder regarding the construction of the substrate and calculating the exact dimensions of the patio and positioning of the drains etc etc....

Well there you go - its a bit more than '40 sq mts and not much cutting' . Always difficult to give advice on pricing as there are usually other factors in these jobs that are not covered by a meterage rate. At the end of the day you have to be happy that you've given the client value for money and covered all your overheads before you make a wage! If they've got any sense they'll snap your hand off and not regret choosing a short term cheaper option. Good luck.
