Priming Bathroom??

I am tiling my bathroom and ensuite. They are all stud walls, but where there are showers are plywood.
I have CT adesive(something like this may be wrong)
Do I need to seal the whole tiled area or just the plywood bit?? and what primer do I need.

Me and my husband are doing this job ourselves.

You could mechanically fix 6mm hardi backer to the ply and just tank the joins. I think that would be the cheapest way of doing it and still as effective as the other thicker boards.
