Problem with Benfer Gout

Tilers Forums Official Sponsors

I used Benfer grout for the 1st time today, and i think there was something wrong with it!?!?!

When mixing, i couldn't get it to a remotely sticky consitency at all!?! It wouldn't stick to the float from a wet consistency, to a pretty stiff consitency (no stickyness at all!). As i was doing a floor i decided to give it a go regardless (probably not the best idea i've ever had), but doubt it'll stay in there. It cleaned up lovely, and looked good on completion of job (although a lot darker than i expected, but i'm hoping it'll lighten up once fully dry).

The grout wasn't out of date, only a month old. Anybody had grout act like this before? And if so, what was the outcome?? 😀

Cheers

i have used the benfer grouts and found them to be very similar to the mapei grouts in consistency, finish was nice and colour good too used the off white(ivory) white and grey all mixed up fairly loose but set rapidly,i never had any problems with them

Yeah, i'm thinking there was something wrong with it. I've used Mapei grout before, and although i didn't like it particularly, it did stick to the surface of the tiles and float enough to be usable. This grout wouldn't have worked on a wall, as it would've just dropped straight to the floor!?! One saving grace, if it does need to be re-grouted, it should come out easy enough lol!
