Problematic grout???

Hi guys..hope everyone is well before the monday morning starts!!! Heres a query for you. I have on the last couple of jobs been using granfix white grout and after a couple of days some of it has gone dark...like a purplish tinge especially on the edges of the joint. Thought it may be that I used a different makers adhesive the first time but used granfix adhesive the latest time. Both jobs had days to dry out so I didn't rush it. Also noticed it last month on my own en-suite with ivory grout by granfix. Also noticed that granfix grout darkens either side of the joint where siliconed. Is there a reason...or is granfix rubbish?? Cheers. :mad2:

i use granfix addy and grout most of ther time and have never noticed (or had any complaints) any discoloration in the grout. i do notice sometimes a slight tinge of green comes out of the ivory when laying on but i just mix it in. can't think what may be causing you the problem tho

Thanks Mike...plan to give their technical line a call tomorrow. Customer not seen it as yet as house is empty. The other trades say they can't notice it but I can...maybe betta ring specsavers at the same time methinks.

sometimes it's best not to point out minor faults that the untrained eye won't see. i've done that before e.g. to point out a slight flaw in a tile and the customer wished i hadn't said anything as they would never have noticed it but once i've pointed it out they could see it. may be best not to say anything if it's hard to see

Did you have any metal trim on this job? If so, did it still have protective film on when grouting?

Or was the trim cleaned before grouting?

If you used dispersion adhesive, it is more than likely moisture escaping via the grouted joints.... if you use it to thick then it can take a long long time to dry.. no more than 3mm max.and also if the tiles are too bi then the moisture will take longer to disperse via the joints if the substrate isn't that porous..

is it a ceramic tile? did it have a brown biscuit? could it be this comeing threw?

Granfix is rubbish i have had nothing but problems over the last few years would never use it again, grout cracking, discolouration you name it i have had it, Bal or Palace all the way!!!

I'm the same now Ben...using BAL or Dunlop and avoiding granfix. The addy I used was cement based and allowed over 24 hours to set. It was only on a couple of jobs and prob from same bag (now binned!!!). No problems with new stuff I am buying. Just staeted using Dunlop standard set plus addy which is the same stuff as the BAL SPF but almost half the price. Spoke to BAL today and the only difference is that the BAL has a 25 year guarantee wheras Dunlop has 10....paying for the name again!!!!

Sorry to disagree but that statement is wrong..

It might be made in the same place but it is deffo not the same product..

So who at BAL said this then..?

ive had this malarky a year ago, ultracolour and bal just aint white ,been using granfix and everything in the world is brilliant sparkly white

if using tubbed gear allways grout the next day for me ,a pain sometimes but as dave says its gotta dry proper
