Some porcelain are just a nightmare and it's often easier just to wet cut them.

Here's a few tricks we've found:
Score the tile with your cutter and then knock the tile on the corner of your cutting machine, some porcelain will break like this, or tap the back along the scored line with a hammer.
If this doesn't work one method i have used is to mark up the cut, then cut outside of the marks by 20mm or so, use the breaker or the knock method to cut this extra piece off, then try using the breaker to cut the original cut, as the first cut seems to take the tension out the tile that causes it to break off at angle.

I feel your pain mate :(

As above.....every cut today has either snapped while scoring/sheared offline or wouldn't snap at all,
and I still have another 2 days worth left!. Any ideas....forgot to write the name of the tile down but they are 60x30 Grespania beige, textured matt glazed porcelain tiles.

Glazed porcelain, that is the problem I think. The job I am on atm we are having the same issues, dry cutters will not touch them even the top of the range Sigma failed, Andy tiler can vouch for this, four tilers with approx 100 yrs experience between us, had no success.

We are having to wet cut every tile and even then some are shearing off. This game is getting harder.:mad2:

O

On one

For the first time in years I have felt like packing it in! It was 3pm this afternoon before I fitted a full tile......sick as a parrot doesn't cover it. Having to score then wet cut(if it doesn't shear off first) every tile.
Rang the tile shop and they were as good as a chocolate fireguard.......someone who knows nowt about tiles telling me I was scoring too hard, snapping too hard, just cut them with a grinder or bring a tile back in to the shop(like I have time to waste 2hrs running about)

My mate has been on this job for weeks, today was my first day fixing. I understand now why he has been having sleepless nights over it.

We asked the supplier if they had any complaints about this tile, they had only sold them on one other occasion, we know the tiler who used them and he said they were a nightmare. He was lucky that the skirting would hide the rough cuts, we are incorporating a black border in this project, so the cuts need to be spot on.

I will post some pics as we go on.

I find on some hard porcelain I change my wheel for a more older one if you use a new wheel it tends to score deeper which in turn makes the tile break off the line never get rid of my old wheels in case they are needed for this situation my cutter is a Rubi if still no joy I revert to the angle grinder. I found the worst polished porcelain 600 x600 were from b & q on cheap offer £10 m2 they were just a nightmare.
