What advice can you offer for intricate cuts. Like around mouldings, sinks etc.
Is a profile gauge any good or is making a paper template the better way?
Or have you any other better ways to tackle these.

sinks..just scribe to them.....mouldings.. if they can't be under cut with a saw then use the profile gauge....
 
i use a peice of cardboard usually for a template. works for me. always best to go underneath things where possible though
 
You could always try using one of these: broken link removed

I've tried the cardboard method and it works well but if you get yourself a flexible curve you can pretty much mould it to any shape and it keeps its shape!

If all else fails go on a quick plumbing/sanitation course and take the blinking thing out - gives a better finish too!!

i use backing paper for wall paper easy to work with, not to thick
or sometimes use pipe cleaners even easier to bend into the shape
you need
 
Where's that post I did with the image of the (fair to say poor) example of the scribing in around an object. Accompanied by Dave's info on scribing in.
