Hi there, we are planning on having quartz stardust tiles fitted through the whole of the downstairs of our house, approx 80 sq.m. I keep hearing about these tiles lifting over underfloor heating that's connected to central heating system. The tiles I have found are not the cheap ones they are 97% quartz & the rest being resin. I have been told by Topps Tiles that they won't lift as not the cheap tiles from China! I have also been told by another company not suitable for Ufh! Confused.com! I called The Tile Association & they told me to have Ditra matting laid between the tile & ufh and this will prevent movement & moisture but I still am worried abut the lifting/warping as it's costing us a lot of money & I'll be devastated if it does happen. Would gratefully receive advice from you professional tilers out there!! Many thanks

I would try and get some written assurance about if they would warp or even contact the manufacturer but if you do go ahead use a 2 part adhesive

It is important to consider the high coefficient of thermal expansion of resinagglomerated tile, this will certainly be an isue on the larger format tiles ,as above ,Consult the tilesupplier before using resin agglomerated tiles with underfloor heating systems.

Whitebeam, is there a need for more expansion joints ( smaller bays) to eleviate possible movement with these type of tiles and UHF ?

Also, dependant on the quality of resin binders of the aglomerate consult with your supplier, if you will need to seal prior to grouting , if quality is good you should be fine without. Will also depend on the chip make up of the tile, marble quartz,,granite or mix etc

Buy star galaxy granite instead. It is far more fit for purpose for flooring.

If your quartz floor dulls and scratches, which it will, it is extremely difficult to refinish in place. Not impossible, but difficult. Difficult to a degree that grinding, repolishing and bringing back the finish would cost the same as buying it and refitting new.

Granite on the other hand is more easily maintained and would be entirely unaffected by underfloor heating being a volcanic rock.

Think of Quartz as a decorative product, it's fine in areas of the house that have low or easy traffic such as upstairs bathrooms. In a main thoroughfare it will look dull in a matter of months.

I was involved in the manufacture of quartz for some time. Trust me when I tell you granite is a far superior product.

I would listen to Alan ATS on this one.
I have fitted gulf stone quartz on top of wet ufh in a small toilet, 4m2.
They say it is acceptable but what will happen also with yours it will fade with UV light & it won't look great in a few months time..

The quartz stardust state on the packaging it's is gulf stone or connected to....mine did anyway.
