Question about priming

replacing tiles, took off old tiles. the wall is plasterboard. its down to a smooth layer of brown paper backer (the top painted layer came off), which I've sanded any extra ripped layers down to flat.

Should I just prime over this brown paper layer with BAL apd and then fix adhesive.

The topps guy sold me some green star BAL and told me to just fix tiles using that straight on the brown paper and not to worry about priming.

Or do I rip off the brown paper all way to plaster layer and prime BAL apd from there?

what are you tiling mate bal green star is only fit for kitchen splasbacks (if that)

the small area between the worktop and the units. fitting splashback/upstands and the tiles are to cover the rest of this middle area

just one more question about the glass splashback/upstands... do you tile the area and then fix the splash/upstands to the tiles or lay the splash/upstands first, then tile to the edge of the glass splashback?

how best to make the join? tile:grout:glass or some other way

tiles are light cream, splashback is black glass 600x900 and upstands strips of 1000mm glass by about 110mm (topps tiles bought)

whats the thickness of the upstands and the tiles ? it they are the same ish i would fit the upstands then tile to them and finish with a nice bead of Silicon between not grout hard to say without seeing it. never fitted upstands then tiled the jobs i have done like this have had upstands allready in place and they wanted the gap filled with tiles.

just re-tracking a few posts, personally I'd replace the plasterboard, if the top layer of binding paper has come off it's structural integrity will probably be compromised (imo)

what the whole plasterboard, including removing all the units attached to them, the appliances, getting the gas hob disconnected?

or just cut out the section between the worktop and the units?

Yeh I might do that, its dot and dab. Can I use gripfill? ive no idea what the adhesive used to dot and dab the replacement section of plasterboard in?

and then would that section need priming or just adhesive onto fresh plasterboard ok?

I'd use dri-wall adhesive to dot and dab your boards, fresh unskimmed plasterboard doesn't need priming.
