Think I would be fitting a former if I came across similar Jay, with membrane across the lot

i use to do fig 1 was never happy worried about if render would hold and chance of smell did about 40 or so about 7 years back since been doing fig 2 and feel a lot more confident but it all depends on how confident you are in your product :8:
if someone wants to move post by all means i just dont want to upset anyone

It won't upset anyone Jay as far as i'm concerned..

I think that by putting the membrane over the screed bed then it prevents the screed from getting saturated and then will virtually eliminate the chance of salt migration from the screed bed.
Plus the membrane will stop any mould growth within the screed from constant wetting..

I will move it to the wetroom/tanking forum..

yes screed is porous and it's best to keep it dry, but if instead of screed if you used ,polymer modified render its impenetrable so it would not be a problem,as you say jay its all about confidence in your product

Jay, one of the most misunderstood/ignored/unknown codes here in the US is the one that governs the sloping surface (1/4" per foot) of any drainage membrane or waterproofing membrane. The plumbers don't know about it, the inspectors don't know about, the buidlers don't know about it. And they all want to argue when the tile setter wants to do it the right way.:mad2:

Yep this is how i do it as well.
Ive ripped apart enough bathrooms to appreciate keeping the screed dry.

Regards

Trev
