Quick ufh question

I had a call today about pricing up a 50 metre floor that has underfloor heating below the screed he said the heating has been on for 3 months do you think I should use ditra matting,flex adhesive or will rapid set do the job thanks I know what I should really do but doubt has been put in my mind so I want your opinions before I explain further

Good man that's what I'd use it's just the bloke bit at me when I said are you interested in using ditra matting and he said no I'm not using that crap it's a gimmick the people that fitted the heating said so

That is the trouble. People don't like paying for wot they don't understand. Doesn't matter HOW much you try to explain the pro's of using it.

If they can't see it.......they don't want it????

It's a nice area and I don't want to loose it but i want to do it right can't b bothered with the hassle when the floor cracks or comes loose

Tell him to phone the manufacturer of the ufh and to say he is having tiles fitted over it. I would be very surprised if they say he does not need Ditra, flex adhesive/grout and for that area expansion joints. The fitters need a tech lesson the tophats.

What tiles are you laying ?

You don't need to use ditra unless it's stone or unless the screed has become unsound....

Ive just done 65m2 floor with wet ufh with porcelain tiles and I didnt use ditra...

Infact if I would have insisted on using it I wouldn't have got the job...

If the floors cracked or hes using stone then I would insist on using ditra.
If not then you can recommend it and give him a price with or without and leave him to decide. .
Alot will depend on his budget.

Definitely find out what screed t is mike as if its anhydrite you need a gypsum adhesive. Find out if any latience has already been removed or not. Defo flexi and expansion joints in door ways if poss
